Who is your favorite chess player?

Prob Bent Larsen. Tony Miles is also up there. They just have a very experimental style that cant quite be described as aggressive or defensive. Ivanchuk is also his own style. Some of his games look extaterrestrial.

On a good day, Ivanchuk is the best player on Planet Earth.
On a bad day, he's the best player on Planet Ivanchuk.

Karpov and Kasparov both. Admire each for their work ethic but admire Kasparov especially for how he is in every single way an excellent strategist, even while Fischer tried to goad him out with antisemitic vitriol, Kasparov stayed calm, collected and persevered, seeing many moves ahead. Karpov was a genius of the non-savant kind, whereas Kasparov is just highly intelligent and well practised at Chess. If Karpov was in this era, I guarantee he'd be someone who Carlsen would fear. Karpov invented, he didn't solely understand and execute calculations and he also didn't invent for the sake of it. He properly invented, outplayed and outworked.
