Why after a first wrong move on a puzzle and even if all perfect moves after ==> negative points?

whereas on the opposite, if good moves first and last moves are wrong, we get 5 points?

Is that logical?

If you get the first move wrong, you completely failed, even if you figure it out on a retry.

Some puzzles give partial credit for getting some number of moves correct.

Also, I've discovered that if you are given a puzzle vastly above your rating, it'll give you +1 point just for attempting it, even if you get it wrong. This happened to me twice, when I got a puzzle rated 2800 and a puzzle rated 2000. (My puzzle rating has never been higher than a little over 1400.)

The +1 no matter what, is you solve a puzzle that has a pending rating and get it wrong.

This is because puzzles are supposed to be solved in one go. It doesn't really make sense to allow trial and error to take over.

@Martin_Stahl: thanks for the explanation 👍.

Puzzles are a bumpy ride . When you think your doing well , suddenly the puzzles start to become really difficult, and your puzzle rating takes a nosedive ! 🙀…….it’s just so frustrating !

@Martin_Stahl. thank you. It is not "some puzzles give partial..." but all puzzles with many good moves at the start and a latter mistake will give points whereas the opposite does not apply.

I understand your point stating first mistake... however the level of chess skills is exactly the same, either way: with a mistake at the end or the beginning, the rest being all good moves. Sorry, I am super mathematically rational.
