Why are 1500+ players so cocky???

Nicely put in post #18 and #19 by the way, Preggo_Basashi. I especially like the guitar analogy in post #19 - it serves well.

And yes NM darkunorthodox88, I realize the irony behind my username and my advice. However, it is not too far fetched; after all Kaiba does suffer a lot from his loses (and may suffer somewhat less if not for his iconic attitude). I really like Kaiba a lot, as a character and rival to push Yugi's delepment as a duelist, but in all fairness Kaiba too has begun to have better success than in Duelist Kingdom. In the Waking the Dragon saga Kaiba's drawing The Fang of Critias is greatly reminiscent to Heart of the Cards, and in the Dark Side of Dimensions movie we even see a small change in attitude from Kaiba (an argument could easily be made that Kaiba is the main character in that movie - as Yugi [and Yami Yugi especially] barely appear at all).

If needed, here is the scene I am referring to in the Waking The Dragon saga https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwKbFZIvruo 3:24 and 4:49 clearly have similarities to Heart of the Cards - and therefore Kaiba's heart of gold hidden under that exterior; he is not the same duelist he once was; Duelist Kingdom Kaiba would surely have lost this duel (and soul to The Seal of Orichalcos) if not for this draw (and Heart of the Cards) he needed to reveal.

Of course, this conversation should not be the focus of this forum; the short answer, is "yes, I know it appears ironic."

Why worry about them bragging?  Just work on your own game, as you improve you will be them.  Don't brag to them just move on and continue to improve.

(Echo to your earlier post) In response to post #24: isn't calling my username that ironic?

ACESYK101

because they underestimate people

Oh I agree, and I have real life experience. I know two  National Masters and they have this snobby attitude, I was able to shut one of them up (Yan Mieller). Ignore them, they spoil chess.

In almost every forum the higher level players always make remarks on how watching 1200 and below games make their eyes burn...

To be fair, it does kind of make my eyes burn tongue.png Like when you're watching a horror movie and you just want to scream at your TV "NO! Don't walk into the forest alone when there's a murderer! WHY???!!!" In the same way, I want to scream at the players not to hang pieces or miss mate in 1's when I'm observing a low level game.

I'm almost your rating level, and I still hang a lot of pieces! In horror movie equivalent, I wouldn't go in to the forest alone....... I'd bring along a friend to record the whole thing

Yeah I hang pieces on occasion too, we all make blunders once in a while... but not every game like 800 rated players do.

I would guess that a 800 rated player leaves a piece en prise 3 times a game... I might do it once in 5 games..... but then again we 1700-1800 players don't talk about it, so no one knows about them!

the blunder difference between 1800s and 2000s is incredible, meanwhile masters rarely screw up badly...

I've never had a very high rating. The A and B players were always very snobby. So it goes. World Championship Finalist David Bronstein, on the other hand, was as open and friendly as could be to me. After he trounced me at a simul we had quite a pleasant conversation about our game and chess in general. A year later he remembered me when we bumped into each other at the National Open.

He was a true gentleman, RIP
