Why I refuse to pay for membership.

I joined chess.com for tactic trainers and chess mentors. The interactive way to learn is way worth it.

For playing games, I think free membership is sufficient.

You should report that guy.  I used your history to see who that was and I notice that he has a note on his profile about doing that. Chess.com has the move time data and can verify your claim that he didn't move until there were 2 minutes left. Throw him into the pool with the other Foul Players.

Yeah, but like I said, he can use his clock in any way he sees fit.  He just used it really really poorly.  It resulted in a useless game, but I don't think he broke any rules.   And I'm just assuming his intention was to get a cheap win.  There could also be tons of other explanations, however unlikely they may be.

It has always been my experience that those people who take the time to tell someone else to "get a life" are suffering from "not having a life". After all, you're still here. And you're still useless. Everyone's time is precious. Even that of useless people such as yourself.

He did break the rules and if you knew the rules of the site then you would know that. That's why a message pops up saying that they may have violated the Fair Play policy and that their account may be restricted.

Twice in a row already I have had people abandon a game because they were losing. They couldn't just resign and accept their loss with dignity. They have to waste my time. And yet there is no way of reporting these players. The only option for reporting is if you are being harassed. Otherwise, you have to simply sit there and wait for the time to come up in which a message pops up saying that the other play MAY HAVE violated their fair play policy and that their account will be reported. Yeah. Fat chance. In the mean time, my time is being wasted by some chump who is too ashamed to just resign. The one time I brought this up to a member of staff was during a 30 minute game in which the other player refused to move. You know what they told me? Play shorter games. WHAT? There is a reason I play 30 minute games. I'm not a strong enough player to play 10 minute games and I'm crap in blitz. I need time to think about my moves. I admit this and I'm not ashamed of it. Why should I have to play a shorter game because other people don't know how to take a loss? And this is why I will NEVER pay for a membership. Why do I want to pay to have my time wasted? There is no option for reporting these people other than leaving a note on their profile. A whole lot of good that does. If this keeps up, I'll just end up leaving the site completely. Chess.com seriously needs to have an option for reporting people like this on the spot because this is getting ridiculous. The last person I played didn't even have a bad connection. In fact, their connection was better than mine. So that is no excuse.

I understand the frustration, what i dont understand is the "My time is being wasted..."  if you agreee to play a 10 minute game, and your opponet leaves after 5 minutes, you still have to wait to win, just like you would still be playing for that 5 minutes.  So either way, you would still be at that board playing/waiting.  Do what i do...read.

If my opponent is one move away from an inevitable checkmate and they instead decide to let the clock run down instead of just accepting the loss then they are in fact wasting my time. I don't mind spending the entire alotted time playing a game so long as the game is actually being PLAYED.

Then again, considering I saw you in the chat running your mouth about other players, I should not expect anything more from you. Tell me. How does your foot taste?

I think you may misunderstand the situation.  I was referring to a specific game where no fair play violation message popped up because he never disconnected.  Essentially, it was a normal game.  He just happend to spend 26 of his 30 mins thinking about his 10th move.  It is suspicious behavior, but technically, if somebody wants to spend 29mins and 59secs thinking about their first move that's their perogative.  (I know the servers would abort the game if that were to happen on move 1, but I think you get my point.)

Yes, a player may need 10 minutes to figure, he may need 15, I know chess engines(especially older ones) will do this, just stop, and think, FOREVER, haha  give a chess engine a 30 minute game, and watch that sucker wait 28 minutes haha

It's easier to rant than to win a game or 3. If I had the OP's ratings, I'ld be glad to get a win on time, even if it was the opponent giving up on thrashing me

If he was going to "thrash me" then he would have never DCed. He DCed because I was winning. The fact that you need to go check my rating as a way to "insult" me shows that you're probably as useful to the community you live in as you are to this one.

Well considering you posted that here, it was only normal to assume that you were referring to my particular situation. You didn't specify a different situation and so there was nothing for me to misunderstand.

Wow. OP just got served by Kaynight. This is what you get for posting a thread like this...

Avatar of dOrrrr

Another way to look at it is pay for membership = watch videos, do tactics trainer, chess mentor all that good stuff. This helps you improve which means you can get better at blitz and people can only waste your time for a maximum of 3 to 5 minsLaughing

This is offensive to slaggers.

Good thread so far... maybe the OP has changed his mind about this site. Online Chess is definitely a good alternative instead of Live Chess. Try it out.

As for kaynight - dude, seriously - you're nothing more than a troll. Go hide under your bridge. You've offered nothing of value here in this thread. But if you'd like to keep trying, go for it.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are the letters OP abbreviations for?

Openly pathetic.
