It's a business. The bottom line is $$$. Why do you think iphones cost the consumer $1600, when it costs on average about $68 to make.
Why is Chess.com so money hungry

Personally I think even a business should be atleast a little more honest on their front page
Play chess. Improve your game. **Have fun!** Well unless you pay of course lol
Although I do realize businesses aren't exactly run humans in the traditional sense, more so by money printing lizard people it is always a good thing to be atleast a little honest and builds more trust
Because chess.com is not a charity, they are a for profit business. Lichess is a charity, so you basically get premium free.
You half to look at the history. Many people spent a fortune on chess even before there was an internet.
Because everyone thinks they’ll be happy with 2-3x more money than they have rn. That’s why Elon is all giddy about his trillion dollar pay package
He’s gonna want three trillion if he gets that… every human ultimately wants infinite money that’s why we have big time problems

That would be a fair enough reply to the question "Why is chess.com greedy (at all)?"
When the actual question is "Why is chess.com SO greedy?"
Can you see the difference?

No difference. NO ONE is forcing anyone to spend money on this or any other site.
You're just so plain wrong.
As much it's legitimate to try make money, as much, like for everything else, there are boundaries one crosses only at the cost of bad reputation.
Word.

What has this site done to force people to spend money on the site?
How has the site forced anyone to spend money? Or is it a personal choice?
What has the site done to make them appear greedy?
Chess.com is located in the San Francisco area.....do you have any idea how much it costs to live there? ![]()
I understand, keeping up a website online with like a billion games and 30 million users is hard, but some stuff here seems downright predatory with the practices, especially with some features that seem to be more basic than premium imo
