Hmm? This is still a problem?
Out of interest, can anybody find me on the map? And how does the system handle multiple IPs? Does it go from the first one used when creating the account, or the latest used to log in? Something in between?

Yes, you are shown to be in London.
I'm not sure, but I think the one when creating the account always applies, independently of from where you log in subsequently.
Interesting. I was in London until a few days ago, and have never given a location [other than country] that I'm aware of - certainly not a true one. Does this have no effect after all?
Thanks, kco.

I created my account a few years back from another city, but I think that was before the GeoIP map was implemented; perhaps it updates, or took the IP from the first login after the map was created.
Either way, I'm with the opt-in crowd.
Is everyone finding that their location as displayed on the Interactive Map varies every time they change their country location?
I can't see the map, since I'm back to a Basic membership, but even when I was Platinum I could never see my own marker on the map. Others would tell me where it was, but my own never appeared on my display. Interestingly, where mine appeared (and probably still does?) was several hundred miles away from the only location from which I have ever logged into chess.com. My location marker appeared in Wisconsin, more than 300 miles away from my log-in location in Michigan. My DSL service must somehow or other be involved with some hub somewhere in Wisconsin.
@Cystem: your "location" is north-east of Green Bay, Wisconsin.
At least I can see my own "location"
@artfizz: no, the location remains constant irrespective of where in the world you log in from

Yeah, that's in the area I was told previously was my spot. Never been there, never entered that as my location, am currently logged in from several hours driving distance away in a different state!
But it looks very nice on the map - may be you have a (forgotten) summer place there
Or maybe I've been left one in a will and they forgot to tell me about it!!! Except I've never had any relatives or friends who lived or moved to that region.
>Too drunk to remember
That would have been a long drunk drive home! I probably would have sobered up at some point before I got back here.

I never appear on my own map. You have to search for yourself (by name), then you get shown a display with just those members matching (including partially matching) that name.
Oh dear god. I'm finally convinced that chess and logical ability are totally unrelated.
