Can someone please help me to understand why chess.com allow its users to access its database of master-level games while playing in Live chess? Not only have they decided to make it accessible but there is actually a link labelled “Explorer” in the top left of screen while playing in the browser which will automatically enters your position into the Explorer. How is simply selecting your next move from a ready made menu anything other than cheating? Why are chess.com legitimising this practice in this way? An opponent of mine explained it to me this way earlier today: “we were both playing chess, I just started at move 9”. Is this really what we pay our subscription fees for?
I agree that it shouldn't be there but the rules are clear. There are temptations all over the web.
You should report your opponent.
