Why people refuse to resign?

It ain’t over till the fat lady sings. You gotta earn that win

Oh I dont mind if they continue to play. Hoping that I stalemate them or something. Thats cool.

But if I have an absolutely overwhelming position and they just let me sit for minutes until they finally idle out, thats rude.

Simple they expect stalemate or a big blunder, capitsch ?

People refuse to resign because their ego is running their life, they lack the humility to accept "I lost this game" and move on.

Again, if they keep on playing, I dont mind.

The annoying scenario is when they lost and just dont move and expect you to be sitting there doing nothing as a "penatly" for having the audacity to win.

It's because when you don't resign there is a chance of draw or even win which is slim but still there. IF you resign then you for sure lose the game.

Because they're terminally online and unemployed. A game for the mannerless and gentlemenless not gentlemen and mannered. It isn't time-wise worth it for you to spend 3 minutes in a position that you have 1% chance to win 8 points. They just don't value their time. I would personally recommend to not play chess and if so to avoid incrementless. It attracts the worst and degrades the best.

This is a good synopsis. I'd even add most people seem to sadistically never resign in the chance to ruin the other persons day.

cause they think they might be able to trick you

It’s their right to resign or not. Is that hard for you to accept?
Avatar of Mid-KnightRider

because we prefer to win or tie. If the situation is winning for them I usually resign unless they are in a time pinch.

No one has claimed someone MUST resign early as a rule. There are rules though surrounding this topic though. Stalling is against the rules. Stalling means not moving but not resigning.

Does every idiot always think rules of game = game etiquette? You do realize that game rules FOLLOW game culture not vice versa. There may or not may not be a rule that allows me to wear a shirt of my opponents face saying im going to checkmate him. There may or not be a rule that allows me spam offer a draw to distract my opponent? Do you see where this is going? Probably not I assume.

No one is talking about the rules. We're talking about the bad mannerisms that are side effect from pro players normalizing <3 min chess + no increment.

Shoutout to the people that actually try to play the game instead of playing the clock.

@GM Hikaru can you please chime in here.

Every player has the option of resignation at any time. According to your definition there is no such thing as stalling as you have the option to resign at any time.

Cuz there is a possibility of stalemate or draw (sometimes winning on time too but it's rare), at least that's the reason I don't. Idk about everyone.

I still resign if it's a totally hopeless position

Avatar of TaterBoy37

This is why I never resign. (I’m black in this game btw)

Avatar of SOUTHWESTMONSTER
lol because you have to beat me. I win 50% of games that I am losing. Just because I blunder a piece doesn’t mean I have to resign.
