Yes, I think this is indeed the crux of yumyum’s sad existence: a lack of faith. He simply had no faith in human kindness. Like a rescue dog that has been passed on from owner to owner but couldn’t help himself from peeing on the furniture, so he simply expected the worst without changing his sad and troubled ways.
