Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual seems to be on most lists.
Endgame Books or Videos for a 2000 (USCF)?

I have two recommendations: for the basics (the above are excellent...no doubt about it...just my $.02): Nunn's Understanding Chess Endgame (excellent survey of the basics) then by all means Mueller's How to Play Chess Endgames (socalled complex endings). Also, Benko...if you are able to get his 2 vol edition on the ending...GET IT...out of print and very hard to find...these two volumes will cover you for the rest of your life. So many other good books...but these stick out for me. (former expert...geting back into chess after 10 yr hiatus)...oh yes...I must not forget: Practical Endgame Play, Beyond the Basics (Flear), 100 Endings You must Know (this is a fantastic book...) and finally Shereshevsky's Endgame Strategy (once the basics are mastered...this text is probably the 1st to study).

Endgame Chess Quiz by Larry Evans - one of the most beautiful, but practical chess endgame puzzle books available. It will change the way you see endgames!
The endgames presented seem so simple and easy, yet there's only one good move in each of them, and it's not easy to see!

My .02 on this subject: I HIGHLY recommend John Hall's ENDGAME CHALLENGE....this book is loaded with all the basic theory...with solutions to boot. You can download (cbv) the file (without solutions) from the web (see my other note on this subject). Any basic chess engine will give you the solution (s)...or you can just plug them in (if you have the book). Here is the secret: no need for memorization or crunching analysis....JUST GO OVER EACH OF THE PATTERNS USING CHESS BASE...CHESS READER ETC....do this several times...over and over...until you have it. The KEY is to get the patterns STUCK in your head...thus, you will not ever need to analyze these positions....concrete analysis comes with the technical endgames...here is a for instance: R and p endgames...there are 89 positions...again, once your data base is set with the positions and solutions...you buzz through each position...say every 2 minutes or so for each...eventually you will get the time down to 1 min or so (for most of the positions). Do this X number of times and VOILA...this method was never available before the computer and databases...NEVER...and it is so simple...AGAIN, YOU ARE PLUGGING IN THE PATTERNS...not the concrete variations (so to speak)...anyway there you have it...1936 USCF and on my way to master!
Hello,
I've been trying for quite a while now to reach 2200. In many ways, I feel that I am already there, my openings seems to be fine and my middlegame seems to be on par. Therefore, I find that I am consistently in games with those rated 2200+ in real life. However, while of course there are other weaknesses in my game being a 2000--I find that even at my best play (including games where I have an advantage) I am getting massacred in the Endgame vs players 2200+.
So with that in mind, does anybody have any recommendations like books or videos to help me study the endgame? Also, if you happen to be a stronger player than I am, do you have any tips or pieces of advice to help get better in the Endgame?
Any recommendations/advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
