How to win the next position?

Follow these tips:

1)Keep the king opponent away from his passed pawn;

2)Stay in the same column of the pawn, and lock the check

with his Rook!

Here´s the problem:

Yep, you learn that one and you praise to be able to convert an endgame into it some day... Laughing

I once managed to achieve the Philidor position to get a draw, but never this one.

There, now you know how to win the Lucena Final .

Hint: build a bridge, or barrier, with your rook

If both rooks were off the board, it would be an easy win...

Question about an alternate strategy instead of Lucena: would White be able to do the following to win, instead of Lucena?  I'm guessing no, that Black would have some way of drawing unless White uses Lucena, but I am not sure what that strategy is. Let me set up a position (bear with me here, folks, just signed started viewing Chess.com for the first time in my life 10 minutes ago):

(I'll describe the placement above in case I goofed in posting the board. Basically, White King @ d8, White Pawn @d7, Black King @f7, White Rook @ e2, Black ROok @ c1 -- classic Lucena)

What happens if these moves are played?  1. Rb2 (swing the rook to the other side), then (skipping the black moves) 2. Rb8, 3. Rc8 attacking the Black rook (but the White Rook is protected by the White King), so the Black Rook has to get off the c-file, then 4. Ke7 .

Now the White King is exposed, so the Black Rook begins checking furiously, but the King zigzags its way down toward the Black rook and eventually the rook has to pause for 1 move to get away.

In that 1 move, the white pawn is queened, which is a win.  Also if the Black rook is exchanged for the pawn, then White wins.  Or if the rooks are exchanged but the pawn is protected, then White wins.

This would be a way for White to achieve a win without using the Lucena technique of using the White Rook to block a check, no?  Or am I missing something?

(By the way, I couldn't figure out how to start a new post thread, so I had to reply to this one --hope it's on topic.  Is it because I don't have paying membership that I can't start a new topic?)

Not sure of the point of your reply, Diakonia. I do know that it works to play 1.Rf2+ (Lucena).  My question is: does 1.Rb2 also work (result in a win for White)?

Your solution works, I added mine to show a much quicker win.
