I bought Pandolfini's Endgame Course. I am able to solve the positions but I am not sure whether i can remember these position in tournament games if i wanted to trade down or not. I want to know if any of you know a method so that I can remember all these positions.

TheMushroomDealer

I don't know any, sorry. But in chess generally nothing comes without practice and reading things over and over again.

OK. Thanks

@hitesh

Just saw your profile. You seem to have a elo rating of around 1500, shouldnt you be working with advanced level stuff like Dvoretsky and Averbakh ?

TheMushroomDealer

You could maybe try the "method" I used when learning openings. I looked up a line and next day I tried to remember the correct moves and after that look up the next line. Day after that I tried to remember the both lines etc. If I didn't remember it I looked it up again and finally i was master of openings :)

Yes. But actually, endgames don't usually arise in my games. So I never focused on endgames. I mostly win or lose games due to tactical reasons. Either I am up in material position or opponent is up in material or position.

+1?

Thanks for helping me prepare openings

TheMushroomDealer

It basically means me too. It's quite often used in forums

The question could be: Can we use it in endgame training?

Ben_Dubuque

I suggest looking up classic endgame positions and learn the basic endgames first. K and Q vs lone K first.

hithesh1111

I have mastered the lone mating and others years before. Now I am focusing on Rook and Pawns, Bishop and Pawns, Queen and Pawns etc and little more advanced but still theoretical and must-learn positions

I suggest you go to chesstempo.com. That site has a tactical trainer and an endgame trainer. Use both every day and your chess will improve over time. I have also downloaded a program called Peshka from the internet and they have a number of interesting courses. I am taking the defensive play course right now but I also believe they have an endgame course. I believe that actual hands on training is better than reading books and watching videos.

Chesstempo endgame problems are limited to 2 per day for a non-premium user. Is peshka free? Anyway, thanks for your help.

Got an idea? What if we take an endgame position and check the various possibilities for the position to arise (trades, promotions etc). This way, i can remember these positions in tourney games. This forum isn't closed yet. More new ideas are welcome.

If you want to learn chess you may have to pay a few shekels if you can afford it. I am a paying member of chesstempo and so i get to use the endgame trainer freely. Peshka is a free program but you have to pay for the courses. As for freebies  you may be interested in Lucas Chess which has some interesting instructional programs although not specifically endgames.
