Queen & King vs. King

I missed a few checkmates here... Any tips to remember them? I was stuck doing the dishes because I didn't find the mates.

One think that got my attention was 8. Qa6?? letting the black king temporarily escape with Kb4. Since you already have the black king confined to the edge don't let it escape towards centre! Even if you don't see 8. Qb3X 8. Qb5 avoiding stalemate and keeping the king confined would have been better than Qa6+. In general when you already have the king confined to the edge then it's good time to look bit more carefully for the chekmate.

There are really only 2 basic chekmating patterns with this piece configuration so it shouldn't be too difficult to learn to regognize them. Just practice (for example by using the computer workout) until you can confidently win this ending everytime.
