The hardest endgame of all time

White to play and win before 50 moves

I looked at this with a tablebase

Its stupid hard

The idea is actually really instructive though

You use a combination of mate and zunzwang threats to herd the knight to a bad spot and you will eventually be able to trap it

With best play it takes about 40 moves the win the knight and then another 30 to do the B+N mate 

I kinda know how to mate with n + b, but not if my opponent has a knight too

Bh2 is not the fastest but it should barely win the knight in time still

I’d like to keep what little sanity I have left

Bh2 Ne4 and there is no mate

engines suck at endgames

At first glance it looks like white has some sort of mate but he never does because he is in the wrong corner and the black knight is annoying

i checked with 4 engines. all say 0.00

except depth 30 chess.com engine, it says +0.09
