Of course there is no way out!
Perhaps your app and the friend were stupid, or you were playing upside - down chess? (cxd8)

there might have been a visual bug with the pawn on c7. if the pawn had moved earlier in the game but somehow glitched back to c7 so the computer thinks the bishop on b6 could take the queen even though it looks like the pawn is in the way.
if you entered the position into the app you may have entered it upside down which is a common mistake if you flipped the board sometime before and cxd8 would be possible if so
The answer is obvious. Black can simply play Bxf2+. If White takes Black's king, then Black takes White's king and it's a draw :D
To give a more serious answer, that is checkmate if you set up the computer correctly. The black king is trapped by his f7 pawn and the rest of his potential escape squares are covered by the protected queen. Either you set the board up backwards or your app needs some maintenance.
Black does have a way out but it's extremely difficult. Theoretically he could play Kxd8 and the king could then deflect the bishop with his fist if it tried to attack. But if most players tried to do that they would screw up and it would be an illegal move. Unless your opponent is a Super-GM (2800+) I think that's checkmate.
Or the king could just blackmail the bishop by threatening to blow the whistle on his inappropriate activities with alter boys if it tried to attack.
If he resigned right before you clicked submit, but it allowed you to put the piece there anyway and then froze when you clicked submit, is the only way it isn't checkmate, if there is no error, that won't be resolved awarding you a checkmate....
Hi, first time poster here! I have a question regarding a game I played on Chess With Friends. I was White and my last move was Queen from d1 to d8. Here's the screenshot:
I'm pretty sure this is a checkmate position, however the app doesn't think so. A friend told me there's a way out for Black but would not tell me! What do you guys think? What did I miss??
Thanks in advance!
