I looked at the game, 9. Qb3 is better than Qxb4 because the knight at c6 is protecting the bishop you took.

No. He can't play Qb3, the queen is pinned to the king. It is illegal to move it from that diagonal, because his king would be in check afterwards.

I just wanted to say a big THANKYOU for notating my game and offering suggestions and pointing out mistakes! I at first only saw that my game was posted with the correct formatting, but upon reviewing it again, i see that you took the time to explain what happened and I appreciate that happy.png
