Are there other old beginners here?

I'm 64, not really a beginner, since I learned how to play around 1970.  But my best years were from 1971 to 1980 or so. I've dropped out of the game and returned a few times since then. Today I study the games of my favorite players more than I actually play.

Actually any of these would be great.

I predict this thread will hang around the Beginners Forum for a long long time.

And possibly out live us all. If not, we simply won’t remember what we now know that we know.

I still have cassette tapes that I recorded from LP's

And a VCR and tapes of 80's music videos.

Remember taping from one VCR to another.

Those were the days.

Lp's...wasn't that the short-lived phase between 78's whatever it is that happens now  ( which as I understand it involves "clouds" or some such).

I'm not exactly a beginner, but I'm getting back to chess after two decades.

Your not even old enough to remember Fischer mania,   don't concern yourself with age I'm, 62 and got back into chess about 2 years ago ,  chess is a lot more fun and easier to improve these days .unless you have Grandmaster ambitions or want to compete in high level chess ,age is irrelevant  I'm having a great time exploring the chess culture  that I've missed           (just have to stop buying the darn books,  their  really  starting to add up )

I played this game (as Black) during the week that I turned 62.

It was later nominated (by at least three people) for chess.com's $2000 Immortal Game contest!

I'm 52. I learned the rules at 18, I read Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess and couldn't understand why I still lost every game, so I got discouraged. I later learned that the Bobby Fischer book is a scam, so in my mid-30's I read David Pritchard's The Right Way to Play Chess and finally got some understanding of the game and started going to my local chess club. Then I stopped playing for a while. I started studying chess again at the height of pandemic boredom.

Yeah. If he was using a computer during my game, it must have been a pretty poor one.

Shoot, i can make more blunders than that without a computer. But the real question is: did you win the prize?

No. Pretty well all of the prize winners were titled players... GMs or IMs. I'm just a very talented non-entity.

Well kudos to you and a tip ‘o the hat. Always appreciate the tips (and humor) you post.
