It also increases whites control of e5 by removing a defender. I'm not sure messing up the pawn structure is much of a disadvantage. In return black gets a half open file for their rook. Possibly the c7 pawn isnt very mobile making it more difficult for black to develop their queen. Blacks position might become cramped.

Analysis says best move is Bb5. So if I go Bb5 and black moves a6, then I move Bxc6 forcing black to retake with bxc6, messing up his pawn structure? I also understand that if black does nothing, then at the very least the knight is now pinned.

Did I get the reasoning correct?
