Breaking 1000

I'm new at this, and I'm old too. But my son and I have started taking lessons from someone on Fiver. The lessons are affordable and can be done remotely.
Im hoping some great players can weigh in here, as im sure many have this same issue. in my chess circle there are 4 of us who play regularly and we are all around the same skill level. (900 - 100 on chess.com) as we are always playing eachother and not really anyone else i feel we are only churning ideas within our group and not really advancing in skill level. aside from the obvious not losing material for nothing what should we be focusing on to elevate our game?
You are concerned that playing the same people is limiting the input of new ideas. To solve that you could play different people. This forces you to face new things and adapt to new situations, and offer the potential to see said new ideas at work to try out for yourself. You can just jump in the rated system and get a solid number of games in vs other players.
