Can't checkmate


I did. But the part where they told you about checkmate, I could not understand properly and I could not repeat that part.

Learn checkmate patterns. For example:
Basic 2 rook mate (works just as well with a queen and a rook or 2 queens)

checkmate is when the opponent's king is in check and CANNOT MOVE because every square he COULD move to would ALSO BE CHECK.
Black is in checkmate here (notice how the bishop protects the queen):

Wow. Two days into the game and you are already looking at checkmates. It's tough to observe checkmate patterns that soon. Here is one useful idea which is relatively easy to execute at all levels of play.

Here on the site go to Puzzles > Drills. There you will find checkmate drills galore. Start with the king and queen, then king and two rooks, and then king with one rook. Go over and over them until they begin to make sense, and then go over them until you can do them in your sleep. There are lots of other checkmate types, as you will see, but after only two days of playing chess, those are all you want for the moment.
