Hi!
Coaches cost money. Either you pay or your school does.
When you are below 1200, you need to learn elementary principles, tactics, tactics, checkmate patterns, and tactics.
A coach can help you with this, but is not necessary.
Chess coaching is the only work that I do, but I am not currently accepting new students. I'm mostly retired and the honeydo list at the homestead is growing.
When should you consider a coach?
* If you feel stuck despite putting in consistent effort.
* If you want faster progress and can afford it.
* If you enjoy learning through direct feedback.
If you get to 1400 rapid it could start making sense to get a coach if you're willing to spend, but if you're disciplined and can make your own training plan and follow it, plenty of people have hit 2000 rapid without a coach, probably most.

I see everyone saying like their coach said this or their coach said that and like... Is it normal for someone to have a coach? Nobody that I know in person has a chess coach, I've never heard of anyone who is a chess coach. I suck at chess. Do I need a coach to be good? I have no idea how to get past the like 500 rating level
