I just yesterday got over 1000 in blitz!!!

MarkWing97

Joined this site about 2 years ago (on an old account) and hovered around 900-1100. Recently I got to 1400 and can beat up to 1600-1800 players on a good day. Even joined a few real life tournaments and scored relatively fine for my level.

Sometimes I get discouraged and think there's no progress and improvement, then I realize I got about 500 points in only 18 months and it's still rising. Wonder where I'll be in the next 2 years.

Prometheus_Fuschs

It took me about 4 months to get above 1000, after playing for about 18 months I'm above 1400 in daily, bullet and blitz, only my rapid rating is lagging behind so I should get around fixing that soon wink.png

I started playing chess online and improved fast, (not even joking my first 5 games I lost to the 2 move checkmate, (I played 1.g4 2.f4), played about 4-5 months and played my first USCF tourney. My first rating was 1300, it dropped after that first tourney to 1100 I eventually brought it back to 1200ish and hovered about there until another player gave me this advice, (he was 1800), "literally just wait for them to blunder", my rating jumped 300 points after that. I then started doing tactics and learning openings and jumped up another 300 points, at this point I had been playing about 2 1/2 years and was 1798, I had a bad tournament due to getting sloppy, (making bad moves and depending on them to blunder before making any kind of progress), and dropped quite a bit so I took a break of about 6 months, I am the strongest I've ever been now and will resume tournament play soon.

In my opinion, if you can stop gifting pieces, (moving your queen to an attacked square where their bishop can take it), and take advantage of it when they blunder, you will go from 1000 to 1300 instantly.

I'm entirely terrible and I think you just helped me with this advice 1000 fold more than any other advice I've seen! thank you so much! this has really changed my perspective and I appreciate it more than anything! take note all, if you want to help a begginer from now on... "just wait for the to blunder" I've also seen "do tactics" and "learn 1 white opening and 2 black openings" this is now my plan... super GM in a month right? 😂

Subtleties

I discovered chess 2 years ago. My progression is :

- 800-1000 : one weekend

- 1000-1300 six months

- 1300-1600 another six months

- 1600-1780 one year

but I've not played a lot, I think that if you study properly you can make 1000-2000 in two years.

Right now I'm only 1700 after losing a lot of games. My goal is 2000 rapid by the end of the year. This time I'm studying with books, an IM coach, and I've plenty of time (about 10 hours a day).

Took me 3 months to reach 1700 but only 1800 after a year, I suppose you quickly find your level then it gets harder to push your rating up.

Just reached 1100 today in blitz (started completely at bottom 5 months ago). Now my goal is to reach 1100 in rapid. I guess it's harder.

I started playing chess November 2013 and reached 1000 USCF in around 2 months. Then I stayed there for 7 months before gaining 300 points in two tournaments to get my rating to 1292. Then I stayed below 1300 for another long period of time before in one tournament I gained almost 150 points to get my rating to 1372. After a few tournaments I scored 5/6 against 1450+ opposition and got my rating up to 1471, another tournament against 1500+ opposition I scored 4.5/6 and I reached a rating of 1576. Then I stuck there for 3 months first reaching a high of 1593 then dropping all the way to 1501 and then working all the way back to 1591 before I scored 4.5/5 against 1650+ opposition in a tournament and got my rating to 1728. My rating continued to increase steadily up to 1803 until in a few bad tournaments I dropped all the way to 1727 before I suddenly begin beating 1900+ players in a few tournaments and I got my rating up to 1840. After another few tournaments I scored 4.5/6 against 1900 opposition in a tournament and got up to 1923. I then played another series of very bad tournaments and dropped all they way down to 1795. I then started working back up again to the high 1800s and after 9 months of being under 1900 I got my rating up to 1901. Then, all of the sudden I begin beating 2100+ players and reached expert in November 2017. In 2018 after some up and downs I got my rating up to 2099 in April 2018 before playing another series of bad tournaments and dropped to 2037. I worked back up for the remainder of 2018 to a rating of 2062. Then in 2019 after some hovering in the 2050-2080 range I scored 4.5/5 against 3 experts and 2 masters in a tournament and got my rating up to 2140. I'm currently trying to push for 2200. Since I didn't work very hard at all (other than just doing a few tactics and playing a few bullet games per day) and played video games like Tanki and PvZ in my free time, I think you should get to 2000 in 4 years if you work very hard. Here is a visual representation of my rating progress:

I'm trying to push for 1200. It took me quite a while to get to 1000. Seems you started as an absolute beginner when you created your account. ( I knew all the basic when I started i.e Ceeckmate, Piece movement even en peasant

Nice work. My experience has been the lower time frames are much harder. I'm horrible below 15 minutes. I don't even play times under 15 minutes/game usually because it doesn't give me enough time to ponder. I would suspect then that you will have a higher rating for rapid than you currently have in blitz. Best of luck.

Lion join just over week, get over 600 point... some are dumdum.

When I was 8, I started playing chess. 4 months later, I created an account and maintained a 1400 rating. This was when the Rating system was deflated. I also broke 1250 OTB the first year I started playing.

bruh I broke 1400 OTB first year, 1700 second, 1800 third

bruh I was a Grandmaster within a week of learning the rules. My GM account was closed because the play was so perfect chess.com thought I was using an engine.

Deranged

When I first signed up to this site, I was 14 years old and my blitz rating was around 1500. That was just from playing casual over-the-board games as a kid and competing in some small tournaments in primary school and high school.

Now I'm 25 years old and my peak blitz rating is only 1860. Pretty disappointed at my lack of improvement over the past decade tbh.

Verbeena

Iv'e stated play chess 1.5 years ago in my late 30's. During my first 3 months, i played only against computer and was watching youtube videos & reading "The 6 power moves of chess" book to learn the basic chess tactics & strategy. After i got brave enough to actually start playing other humans, my first rapid rating stabilized at 1100. It took me little over a year to pass the 1300 mark and i did some studying along the way.

I would like to reach 1500, but it will take at least another year and will require some hard work & dedication. I feel quite happy with my progress, considering iv'e started play chess at quite a late age. I wonder how far i can go as long as i have the motivation to improve.

Do you guys feel happy about your progress rate?

Most anybody here seem to be a prodigy?

Plenty of ego... but not much result.

Lion has spoken.

btw I was a 4000 after winning my first game because at that moment I had a winrate of 100%

romannosejob

depends which format.

I mainly played rapid, got to 1200 and then became a bit embarrassed my blitz rating was under 800 for focused on that.

for rapid (30 min time control) 2 months to 1000, another 2 to 1200, and it's taken me 4 months on that to make 1400 (which I just did a couple of days ago).

The blitz players are better though so I'm pretty stuck on about 1200, I'm amazed at how good people are at endgames and finding tricky tactics so quickly in such short time controls. I also play at work a lot though so I don't get 10 mins of focus, can be frustrating closing in on a win with 2 mins on the clock, my opponent with 5, and then someone comes into my work wanting help with a photocopier. I do however get straight up beaten so it's not like my rating isn't near accurate.

oh and I only started playing at 37 so I don't have any sort of advantage of youth or anything like that.

Maybe u were right, i played 6 rapid games and won all. My rating is 1300+ now. Rapid is definitely easier than blitz, and to those saying that blitz games doesn't improve your level; i would definitely be worse in rapid if i didn't play all those blitz games.
