Yes 1200 should learn some basic opening lines for tournament play, and the why's of how the position is to be played and learn from blood spilled from games of the past!

Elite Beginner 2200 - 2300 basically between NM and FM using this since the minimum FIDE rating use to be 2200 
now like 1200 maybe they have gone lower 
Helping a player rated 400-1200 with choosing an opening repertoire? That's like the LAST thing they should be focusing on. Openings should be played with the general opening principles, and rather than waste time learning a repertoire at that rating, they should be working on other more important areas of their game like endgames. Sounds like your training would be pretty poor and taking advantage of people who don't know any better.
