Becoming a chess grandmaster (GM) within six months is an extremely challenging goal. It normally takes years of devoted study, practice, and participation in tournaments to gain this title. To improve, focus on normal practice, play in tournaments, and get education from a skilled coach. While it is a difficult journey, setting sensible desires and staying dedicated will contribute to regular progress. Remember, turning into a grandmaster is a long-term goal that requires endurance and continuous learning.

no. its not extremely challenging. that is the entire point of the criticism laid against him. a GM title has never been earned in only six years, let alone six months. and starting this journey at age 62 alone renders this feat impossible. perhaps he should amend his goal to sprouting wings and flying around the world. that would be equally probable.

I think you wanted to put the word "merely" ahead of extremely. The one thing that helps him (microscopically) is that at his age he can get a GM title by winning the World Senior and having "only" a 2300 rating (FIDE direct title requirements). To continue your analogy he only need to fly across the continent instead of all the way around the world.

No I wanted to use the same terminology as the poster I am commenting on used. This is NOT extremely challenging. To claim it is extremely challenging implies that it is possible. It is not.

I dont see how using AI to promote a viewpoint vs. creating your own post is at al relevant. He is promoting a viewpoint that is incorrect whether or not he is the author.

He doesn't have a viewpoint. Just created a chatGPT text, and put that in here. The text obviously is nonsense. All AI texts are.

No he has a viewpoint whether he stole it or came up with it himself. Agree that the text is nonsense.

It was very entertaining to catch up with all the negative posting. Yes I am MUCH further in chess than I was when this post was first posted. But there never was anything positive about someone having a goal here on chess.com just a lot of negativity. No matter how easy or outrages the claim. Not a very good environment unless you conform to the societal norm of the site. But it's ok. Glad I could provide some form of entertainment and pastime for ya'll.

But apparently this thread gets around to other genres on social media and I have been given the same challenge, 3 months that is, to learn other "so called impossible" skills you can't learn in 3 months. Most I turn down because I don't really see the benefit "on my part" learning the skill. But I did take on one such challenge and that is learning to Rap. Understand I'm a rocker, metal head, and I have never liked rap "again because of it's negativity with the messages of drugs, gang life, hoes, prostitutes, etc, etc." just negative.
But recently there's been an explosion of indie political rappers on the scene that are getting very popular. This has intrigued me enough to take on the challenge. And at the same time gives me a chance to dig deep into this music genre "even going back in history in it" to see if maybe I miss understood something or got something wrong?

But don't worry, I still play chess but mostly in person at chess hangouts here in Las Vegas. I tell the people about my goal, give them this post "for those who are on chess.com" and it's great entertainment for everyone and debating material. Basically "WE HAVE FUN" with it!

As far as chess goes, it's not that difficult of a game to fully understand and get good at. But like everything in life you are going to be limited to who you hang out with playing chess. You are only going to get as good as they are. It's like being poor. If you want the luxury life stop hanging out with poor people. They do not have the right mind set, belief in themselves, etc to progress further than what they are. There are "blaming type" people meaning blaming everything else beside them for their circumstance.

But don't worry. I still drop in once a week or so to check in to see if anything has changed and it never will. I give you all one thing positive, you all are consistent. I'll give you that.

Like it or hate it dude, you're still delusional about your goal. Sure, try for it, but its insulting for such a long standing game with a huge community.
Its like a random boxer going "I'll beat Mike Tyson in his prime after training for 6 months". Its not a toxic community, it's a realistic community.

If the entire world is against you, maybe it isn't that the entire world is wrong, maybe you're the one thats wrong.

Sure, denial is the first stage of grief, we'll see how your progress goes. But in the end, know that we all told you so.

You're putting words in my mouth without doing any research. No the entire world isn't against me. I have 14 YouTube channels, each one in a different niche or genre, so I have plenty of believers and they don't come on bored without me coming through on what I claim at least over 50% of time. And who's "in denial", most people call me extremely arrogant, egotistical, narcissist, etc but you seem to be very delusional on my tone and how I talk because maybe only 2-3 people on all of social media have said I'm in denial?

I have a channel were I mention that I know 32 languages "at different levels of communications, but 8 of them pretty much fluently" and there's a discord channel that goes with the YouTube channel were polyglots join in and all discussions are in various languages. Polymath is someone that knows a lot of topics, skills, etc and polyglot is someone who's knows a lot of languages. Just for those who want the simple version of distinguish between the two.

So yea, in everything I claim or do, I put up proof of how good or bad I am at it. If you want to come to Vegas and hit it big then forget the casinos. Come and play me in chess. We have plenty of places to play at here and lose your money.

As far as seeing far I progress, it won't happen here. I don't need to pay the Diamond membership and hang out and play chess and make friends. First not many want to make friends, or seem very friendly to begin with, second I need to see the benefit of hanging out here and spending the money for membership when I get more fun, excitement, and learning from playing live in a club here in Vegas and getting good food and drinks on top of it. Which do you think is the better payoff for your money?

Nobody said anything about memberships. Also you're arguing with people on chess fourms, and you're claiming you're chilling and so content? Really?

Also, you're right. The entire world isn't against you. Just those in the chess community about your ridiculous goals, it's simply devaluing all the hard work people have put into getting GM titles. Many of these prodigies spend 10+ hours a day on chess, and get GM in a few years. Some random going "yeah this is doable in 6 months" without any actual research on top chess players is a pretty good way to piss the chess community off. I also don't know why you're bragging about your YouTube channels, since it has nothing to do with this discussion which is solely about chess.

No. It's not "like a random boxer".

It's "like a 62 year old dude who never tried boxing, and won't even do any training in those 6 months".

Don't wait around for me here. If you spend "a little time" you can find me on a couple other website but I'm pretty much done here. I still check this thread because it's my threat so I'll maintain it when needed but that's about the extent of me doing much here.

6 months is not a lot, but enough to go far from where you are.

when you set unrealistic expectations not even knowing the challenge, this is what you get. Its frankly disrespectful for how hard getting GM rank actually is.

Also does anyone notice this guy acts just like Kramnik? Goes in with zero statistics, but a GM in doubling down.

This statement alone demonstrates how ignorant he is. Sure, Polymath, you rock on all your other chess sites. You only suck on this one. We believe you.

"Try to get good at chess?" Ok, coming from someone that doesn't know how good I have got sense the first post.

I did write a more informed post for you but chess.com blocked it for fear of "hurting someone's feelings" You know w*ke culture, can*el culture, all that stuff. Basically emotionally shallow people that wasn't even herd of during my growing up. People were well established in believing in themselves had pride in what they did and could take a joke.

Apparently the people my age had children and there children had children and this is where we are in 2024 with the emotional unstable society today.

But, it's ok. If I'm a bad player to you, or anyone else, for that matter is ok. I don't have a problem with it. It's entertaining "for the very few who 'actually' read this threat" but I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Have a great day everyone. Responses from this thread haven't changed any. I got one person from today's posting that friended me and wanted to actually talk how I'm going about learning chess so quickly and I'm glad to share.

See everyone again around Sept because I'll be busy all summer with work and traveling.

"I've gotten much better" - 700 elo rapid player

Also funnily enough he's ignoring the other comments, because if you ignore something, then it shouldn't be a problem!

"Emotionally shallow", is your term for this generation. huh. Pretty impressive coming from someone who can't possibly admit responsibility. 2900 is GM level for online chess. You're... 12% there, (not even counting that its harder to climb at higher elo), (300/2500), after 6 months. Avoid the obvious stat all you want, but we all told you so.

Everybody in this fourm is just about higher rated and played chess for longer than you, and literally everyone here agrees that you're spitting complete BS. Personally, I wouldn't be so delusional as bringing into "generational weakness" into this to try to salvage this.

If you talked about wokeness most likely it just gor deleted because it's political, not neccesssrily because it might hurt anyone's feelings.

Political discussions not allowed in the main forums, but are allowed in the clubs. If you want to talk about politics you can search for discussion clubs and post in them, there are plenty of clubs where people talk about "wokeness" all the time.

But it sounds like you've moved on to other chess sites, I hope you have a good time there.

For what it's worth, I beleive you've been playing chess somewhere else, based on your games you'd been improving far too fast in the single-digit number of games you'd been playing here to be just playing on this website. It's also clear from your win/loss ratio that you're underrated and would rapidly increase your elo if you actually started playing games here again.

Okay, so here's my "hot take":

Polymath guy is clearly trolling, and he was trolling from the start. All that he said in the new posts are completely made up (from the Las Vegas chess hideouts to the political rap career, from the 14 youtube channels to speaking 46 languages).

Speaking 46 languages comes handy when playing all these international Super GM tournaments. wink He reminds me a bit of the Backyard Professor. There is a 40 min youtube video linked on his profile where he talks about his 6 months GM goal. Quite some effort for just trolling a chess forum...
