Yea I’ve defeated Beth Harmon age 15 at 3 crowns, which means people who are low rated can beat OP bots

playing just so that you get a 2000 rating because of Beth Hammond, the fictional character, makes no sense. Have you dried taking Opium so that you can see the chess board on the ceiling above the bed? Love the game for beauty of the game, enjoy the challenge and leave the ratings to your accountant.

When the student asked the master how long it would take to get a black belt, the master handed the student his black belt and said, congratulations, lets fight.

coolboi is right. take a week off and then play a game for fun. Its common to take in too much conflicting info at once and make your head spin. good luck and best wishes.

It is likely because you are playing on different programs. If you are playing against other players on here, you will not consistently lose to 600s if your true strength is 1500. Heck, you won't consistently lose to 1200s if that's your true strength. I would suggest playing against other people rather than the computer on this site to get a better grasp of your true playing ability. After 100 games or so, you should have an idea.

Let people play for whatever reasons they want, if they want to be competitive and improve and use ratings as a method of doing so, why is that a problem for you?

jerrylmacdonald

Do some puzzles for a while.  Seems like your tactical instincts are dull.

EscherehcsE

I know what your problem is - You *finally* upgraded your hardware from that 1983 IBM PC XT...(I know that's not the problem, but it would be funny if that was really the reason, lol).

duntcare

on lichess i can play at a 1800 level because my tactical insight is that level + inflation but i cant hold my game and chess.com has more sturdy players which means i play like a 800 crap cuz i also blunder a lot and when i dont train its that, when i dont blunder im only 1000 here

duntcare

i mean dropped from 1000 to 500 once so g luck getting back because i havent

duntcare

no i play as guest

duntcare

i only used my lichess ac for tactics back when i had no membership

nTzT

Of course...

duntcare

that was around last year what i mean by is 2019 cuz at the time i got like my membership like 2020 around mid year?

TheOtherCreep

Play actual people. I beat Bots higher then me but i get DESTROYED by 500s. I play real people and my rating usually gets higher

dragonbankrs

More then likely the strength levels aren't the same. Even the two most popular sites, Lichess and Chesscom, use very different formulas. A huge example of the contrast is the fact that there are like 4 people under 800 rating on all of Lichess but on Chesscom 800 rating isnt even the bottom 10 percent.

centaurme

A bevy of interesting mixed responses here but all is expected.

I'm off chess for a week although somehow I found my way here again to read comments LOL

By the way, my choice of drug as a substitute for chess is XCOM 2. Still the best turn based strategy ever (for video games).

OP - I’m not sure how you derived at your 1500 rating, did you come to this figure after exclusively playing against a computer? As loads of people have said already, that’s not quite right. Play against real people on here, after 20-30 games or so, you’ll see what your level really is.

Undoubtedly all of this new information you’re thinking about when your playing has effected you, so your plan of taking back to basics sounds good.

P.S
If you’re into XCOM2, give Wasteland 3 a chance, or Divinity: Original Sin - both are excellent RPGs with XCOM style combat.

To answer the OP:

My level of play always drops when I'm trying something new, or attempting a new method. Your synapses are trying to make new connections. Your brain is trying to learn new ideas.

If I switch up my opening repertoire, for example, it's normal for me to drop 200 points or so in a matter of hours, before I start to figure things out, and begin climbing back up again.

So, I'd say don't worry about it. In the long run, your rating will eventually make its way back.

TheOtherCreep

Engines arent used to determine rating for a reason. Engines malfunction as soon as you do the best move
