I paralyze when multiple pawns get face to face.

For example, if I have my white pawns on b3 and c2, and black has pawns on c4 and b4, and we both have other pieces crowding around these, I freeze up not knowing whether to take his pawn or just move my c2 pawn to c3 to match his pawn advance.

I recognize that the the right answer is that it depends on other factors, but there seems to be something about having two opponent pawns lined up side by side and my option of meeting https://1921681254.mx/ those with two of my pawns side by side that just makes me freeze. I always blunder and can’t see what to do.
