it doesnt force d4? you can play like 6 other moves besides d4 as black after nf3

   If you don't like playing e4, then I suggest playing d4 for the first move.  This move gets a pawn in the center.  And it opens up lines for the bishop.

Nf3 is better than d4. It doesn't commit to your structure

The important thing is to control the centre. It doesn't matter which move you do.
