But I think it’s it is better to do the French defense because it gives good diagonals for the queen and bishop and there are not as many holes.

I find the chess.com lesson videos very useful at every level.

Having bad knees and can't hop isn't the end of the world unless it also affects your walking ability.

Being hopless is the absolute worst thing that can happen to any rabbit. A leg injury once left me hopless for 7 straight weeks. I sympathize with your situation.

I can totally relate to your feelings, but I fou- er- received, this rather inspiring post on Reddit on a similar thread:

Who cares if you're a very low rated player, or have a learning disability, or focus problem, or a million other things that could make chess hard for you.

Do you have fun playing chess?

If the answer is 'Yes!' , then ignore everything else. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for playing a game you love because you don't meet their rating approval. There are plenty of people who go around to retirement homes, or mentally challenged people who either have very little self confidence or self worth or gave given up on themselves and have learned to play chess and it gas changed their lives! They don't feel like they are different when they play chess, but feel part of something, and although we all have different skill levels, everyone can be proud when they get their first royal fork, or back row mate, smothered mate, etc. So there are people like that, that may take months or longer just to grasp how the game is played, nevermind implement a strategy. If they are able to play, have fun and feel good about themselves then you should too! So just keep playing daily. Improvement is a goal, but maybe don't put as much pressure on yourself to improve at a certain rate. Good luck, keep having fun, and don't let anyone make you feel bad for your level of play. Unless its Magnus Carlsen, they're probably not so great themselves , so who are they to tell you not to play daily games because you're 'not good enough' !

keep playing chess regularly and you will get better in it. In the beginning just try to open your position and basic things like castling.

Hopless... do you mean that your Knights have been exchanged off?

Perhaps you mean "hopeless".

I don't think your hopeless. I started off not understanding much and people could beat me in two moves. Now it takes at least 3, haha. Just kidding. I keep practising and learning.

Nice fi - er -receipt.

I'd add that, if you can, play on the board chess with a friend, that way you would better understand how a piece moves, than if you just play online.

Hope this helps.

It sounds like you could benefit a lot from analyzing your games and looking for opportunities where you can improve. I suggest spending at least 10-15 minutes after every game reviewing and analyzing on your own or with a computer. Also, I think you might be playing too much in a negative state of mind. Being positive will gain you wins. Stay positive in life and over the board and you will see success.

at this stage just by looking at random chess videos or articles should improve your ratings a lot

Don't play speed chess. It will further your dispare. The answer isn't to play faster. losing fast doesn't make ya any better. And speed kills when you're already struggling. I suggest no less than 5 min games, with 10 min being optimal in my opinion. 10 minutes gives you all the time you need to be sure about your moves. your best chance for consistent wins will be at this speed. And when you are a 400 losses are as good for you as anything. Because I've picked up more from losing than anything else. If someone beat me in a clever way, I'll try the same thing on the next guy. I experiment and try to avoid repeat mistakes while trying to remember things I did and moves I made that were good and solid, And then trying to repeat them consistently. I've played for 50yrs and never learned openings or stategies. Every move I make is based on being in the same or similar positions over and over. I play by feel. And my rating isn't high. but out in the real world I win above 80% of all games I play. That tells me that yes on here there are tons of folks who can whoop me. But in the real world the ones strong enough to do that aren't anywhere around. Honestly I can count the times I've lost to people who ask me to play in the real world, on one hand. you can play chess your whole life, and never become a master, yet still have a blast and do it while dominating many real world players, and I know this cause I'm living proof.

Which just does to show how little the 2100 knows about improving performance, and how you are easily led.

"Practice more". Practice what exactly? Just keep playing, making the same mistakes overand over? That won't make you improve. Every single coach in every sport knows that just saying practice more is meaningless filler.

Practice the skills that are are specific to your strengths and weaknesses. Practice them well. Get some feedback on your past performances and analyse them yourself. Listen to the feedback and act on it. Actively spend time learning more about the game.

"Practice more". pfft.

I've been in the trenches (below 500) longer than any of you were even living, maybe.  Some people learn chess faster than others.  It took me years to learn how to be fast at speed chess.  It took another guy a single day.  Speed chess is probably not the route for most people, but I see that the OP plays 30-minute games so at least that is a plus.

Michael Jordan wasn't born a good basketball player.  He had to learn the game just like everyone else.  The same goes for chess.  I don't know why people sometimes feel like falling on their swords when they are losing a lot of chess games, but, to be bad at a new skill, is NORMAL.  I bet if anyone came up here and I asked them are you good at x? How about y? and when I get to one they are not good at, or never tried before, and ask them to do x,y, or z, they won't perform very well.  There is something that someone isn't good at, anywhere in the world.

To be honest I think this guy is a troll because a lot of trolls I noticed write posts like this to try and waste people's time.  Troll or not, I've said enough.

Same for me, I dont play speed chess though

Well, I was about to give an advice but I checked his activity and his last time online was 7 days ago. He gave up. If for some reason you come back try to do this: see chess games from good players, do drills and puzzles, study openings and play rapid chess, not blitz or bullet
