I've been playing for a few months now. Started off around 500, just got to 1000. What's your biggest tip for getting to 1400?

Thanks

Be consistent, play people no more than 50 rating points below you, have fun

Complete development - play with all your pieces. Always be looking to improve your pieces and create threats. Look at your opponents threats, dont hang pieces or pawns - look after the little guys. At 1400 it can be hard to fight back once you are a few points behind.

Spend your time wisely. Most games you should have at least 3 minutes on the clock and if you have more than that you're probably moving too fast.

Great job on hitting 1000! I just recently hit 1700.

As for advice, I recommend that you keep playing rapid, don't get distracted with blitz and bullet like I did. Do some tactics. You have a membership, so take use of it.

Great advice! I second that. Blitz and bullet stunted my growth but I had a lot of fun experimenting. I'm back taking it slowly and working thru the thought process to increase my accuracy. Also learned an opening as white and a few defenses as black, for the long haul.

Keep up the hard work and have fun.
