Thanks, but I didn't come here to read even more articles about chess...
you think on their time. If thinking about the game is too much, think about something else. Tal was working out how to engineer a lift to pull a hippo out of the swamp by force in one of his games... Of course, being Tal, he won anyway.

Reading an article takes a few minutes, feels fun, and may or may not help you much.
Reading a chess book is different. You have to put in some work, and you actually learn stuff. You don't just read it, you set up a board, and play out the variations. You try to solve things on your own, and then look at the author's analysis. You might even take notes in a notebook while you read.
Even so, maybe my answer was not useful. Maybe you're ADHD or something and need medication. I have no idea. But people tend to slow down when they're unsure. If you're learning new ideas and if you're trying to be accurate with your moves, then for a while you're going to be unsure, and you wont move quickly.
Some people are just 'impatient' often task or issue focussed. They dont always recognise the difference between 'a' solution and 'the' solution, so run with the first idea and become impatient to execute it. They are great at some things and terrible at others. They often use time reactively, sorting out problems after the event, rather than proactively anticipating problems beforehand. They are spouses, friends, and colleagues. Its entirely normal. However, the complete opposite of me so I probably cant help. Sorry.
Use the time to think about your next move is good advice - but also spend the time tryingto work out what they will do - award yourself points for guessing correctly and a prize once you reach a certain target.
Also the advice to play longer games is good because in a blitz game you are fired up on adrenalin and eager to get your next move done as quickly as possible which adds to the irritation when your opponent ruins your rhythm by take longer than you would like to make their move.
If the game is much longer then you will be less pressured to make a move and so less annoyed by the opponent not moving quickly. You can still use the time to guess their next move, and as an extra bonus once you have worked out all of their moves and your counter moves you can get up and make yourself a sandwich or something -
Learning patience through prizes - it is a win win
Hi.
This topic is going to sound immature but I wanted to put my menial irritations out there.
I am an impatient person. I know that I am impatient, so I figure chess would help me build patience. In a game, my thoughts are usually like this:
"Take the knight, take the horsey, you want the horsey? Take it, take it, take it! How about the bishop, please? I just wanna move a pawn up one square or that rook one to check your king. Or the bishop to b5 to antagonize your queen just-...
MY DUDE, PLEASE DO SOMETHING."
How can I improve patience? I grew up restless, as did many others in my family. Even a ten or fifteen second wait time for the opponent to do something is a little too lengthy for me.
I play the base settings for online play: 5 minute Blitz.
Thank you for any responses.
