so i recently started playing chess again after a while and ive noticed i keep getting checkmated since im not seeing the checkmate until AFTER ive played my move. any clue how i can work on this? im starting to get really frustrated and ive lost enough games for this to be an actual issue.

this game i just played is an example of this.

(and sorry if the wording is weird)

Maybe you could tell yourself to blunder check every move just before you make it. I honestly need to work on not missing my opponents' moves too.

Hi,

If you work on following the CCT position evaluation (Identify all Checks, Captures, and Threats in every position) you’ll avoid a lot of those checkmates. For example in your linked game had you been identifying all the checks in the position after Qxd4 by white, you may have noticed Qg5+ and Qxg7#. Since Qg5 forces white to respond to the check you gave, Qxg7# is impossible, and after white resolves the check, you can capture h5 knight, likewise resolving the checkmate threat on g7.

Getting tunnel vision is common, CCT helps make players look over the board and see what’s going on before playing their next move.

Keep on blundering and you will reach to a spot where you stop blundering.
