Not sure why this move is inaccurate

Hey guys,
can someone explain to me why attacking the Queen with g3 is a bad move compared to the one proposed by the computer (attacking the Bishop with d4)?

I usually can follow the recommendations in post-game analysis but I am not sure about this one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, it's bcuz you're king is in check. So you only have two options: Move your king or block the check with g3.

Also i'm pretty sure the computer doesn't reccommend d4 as it is literally illegal lol

Sorry, I am new to the whole chess diagram thing... corrected the position

g3 loses (at least) a rook after Qxe4+

It's often a good idea to try and solve these positions yourself first. Look for forcing moves by your opponent. Can he put you in check? Can he attack an undefended piece? In this case you can then see that Qxe4 does both: attack the undefended rook on h1 and the king.

It is not that simple: white loses a rook, but wins a rook as well
4 g3 Qxe4+ 5 Qe2 Qxh1 6 Ng6+ Be7 Nxh8 but the white knight cannot get out.
So either 4 d4 or 4 Qe2 are better moves.
