Opening Help

Hi! I'm struggling to find a good, and consistent opening to use - preferably one that doesn't require me to know a lot of theory.

The opening I've been playing so far is pretty strong, but there's lots of variations and it's kind of complicated. Usually I just play what looks best, because I don't know all the theory sad.png

Any suggestions?

Try the King's Indian Attack.

But at your level, studying tactics is more productive then openings.

Can you look at my current openings? I like them but I find it inconsistent.

I don't know what it's called, but it's pretty good.

Try the Italian or Sicilian defence.

I don't get it.

Unless you play chess well and understand complex positions, mates... I do not recommend playing any move rather than e4.

First of all, welcome. happy.png Second, in short, don't worry about specific opening lines. My suggestions for you are summarized in this article:

It is absolutely amazing that nobody became suspicious about your username, and nobody bothered to check your games. Well done, nice job!

I think 1. f4 2. Kf2 is a better opening tactic.

The usual advice:

Play slow time controls.

Slow down.

Work on the basics:

tactics.

opening principles.

not hanging material.

The rest is up to you.  Openings are not going to solve any of the issues you're dealing with OTB.

I wished I knew about plans when I was younger, though @IMBacon. I'd get into a generic four knights without knowing what I do after the opening. I had all my pieces out, I'd castle, then I'd either win or lose and I'd have no idea how I did that.

Pawn structure, piece placement, and pawn breaks.  Openings in a nutshell.
