It's not a stupid question; it's a rule a lot of people don't know about when they come back to chess - myself included. Glad I could help!
There are very, very few stupid questions and this is not one of them. Consider this: A couple months ago was the Skilling Open - in the finals was Magnus Carlsen and Wesley So. During one of the games, Carlsen captured one of So's pawns using en passant and So seemed completely surprised by the move. So ended up going on to win the tournament. Even the top GMs in the world can forget about this move at times.
Hello,
I'm new here, wanted to learn chess for a while so here I am.
Been taking lessons and battling bots for now, did not manage to beat the 1600 yet.
2 times in the last few days I had an interaction while playing that confuses me a lot, either I missed a rule or it's a glitch, really not sure.
I don't remember on which square it happened the first time but the second time it happened on H4, I captured a video as I have take backs on for now: (I can't post a link as a new user, so the spaces have to be removed)
h t t p s : / / s t r e a m a b l e . c o m / q a 9 o m g
Is that normal ? The pawn capturing the one that is next to it ? Again, I had this issue 2 times.
Again, either I missed a rule or it's a glitch - if that's a rule, what are the conditions for a pawn to capture like that ?
Out of curiosity, how was my position before playing H4 ? I was really proud with my game, even if I'm technically at -1 it's very rare for me to reach that far in the game with more non-pawn pieces than my opponent - was the game winable ?
Thanks a lot ! Have a good day !!
