pawn tips for beginners

Never heard this one before.
Also, I can add one but it contradicts an earlier post...

"Pawns" are technically not "pieces" in chess; they are simply "pawns." The Knights and Bishops are the "minor pieces" and the Queen and Rooks are the "heavy pieces." The King is the King (which is still considered a "piece") and the pawns are "pawns" (not considered a "piece").

No worries; even lots of intermediate to advanced players sometimes make this mistake too.

Oh, so when a pawn captures it isn't restricted by just moving forwards.
And also when capturing the pawn does so diagonally.
So that means the white pawn can capture either knight?
Pretty sure that is just unclear by grammar. Pretty sure they know the correct rules of chess. I think "forward" meant by them is directly in front of; "attacking" is not "forward" because it is not DIRECTLY in front of (although still forward).
5. Pawns are sometimes tricky - they can kill other pawns in a weird square.
I use a sword to attack an empty square, and yet a person not standing there gets hit.

Sort of... but technically they were there - you just cut them off before they actually advanced two squares. En passant brings up the question: "Is chess really just an old RTS game?"
