Play games with myself?

Is it possible to play games with "myself" and save it? The games would be those from a chess book so I can learn from them. It would be much simpler than using a regular chess board.

Pretty sure this is what you need...

Many thanks baddogno. That looks great  - but the analysis stops saving after 20 moves. Do I need to upgrade to be able to save a full game? And thanks Ashley but I'd like to learn a few good moves first

Alas, I haven't a clue.  You could try writing Support.  I'm sure a free chess program like Lucas Chess will let you do what you want, but it's a bit complicated and the documentation iffy.  Pretty sure all the standalone chess programs like Chess King or Hiarcs Chess will let you do what you want, but they're not free.  Any suggestions, folks?

Of course you could always key in the game to the Explorer and then download the PGN to a database.  Actually if the game you're studying is between masters, it might be in the Explorer database already which would make things much easier.  Unfortunately, I bet there are limits on the Explorer use for non Diamond members.  Worth trying any way.  Maybe there's a free chess database somewhere that you could use?  I'm obviously in over my paygrade...Help, anyone?

Here's an example of what you can do with the Explorer,  I chose Paul Morphy from the master list and then keyed in the most popular moves starting with e4.  10 moves later, we were down to 3 games.

That's great advice baddogno, I'll contact Support and delve into Explorer for starters. Many thanks again for taking the trouble to reply.
