Question regarding openings

Is it possible to play the Kings indian defence with black when your opponent plays the itallian attack? I'm not sure if you can play any defense formation against the itallian etc., If so, not sure how to search for such games.

Thanks

I don't think it would work that well because blacks knight on f6 could be attacked with e5, and it would be like an Alekhine.

I personally would recommend playing an opening that fights for the center, or if you like traps try the Traxler against the fried liver, just know that it Is worse for black with perfect play.

(I'm assuming you meant "Italian game"  not "Italian attack"  cuz I can't find out what an     Italian attack is.)

You can play a King's Indian setup. Technically it's not a KID then, but a Pirc/Modern. Obviously you should not start with Nf6, but with d6 or g6. The Opening Explorer might help you.

1 e4 d6 2 d4 Nf6 3 Nc3 g6 has similar ideas as the King's Indian Defence, but it is called Pirc Defence as white has no pawn on c4.

no you can't. you can play something similar, called the Pirc, but you have to play the pawn first because the e pawn is already advanced

notice he can't play bc4 right away because you can just snap the e pawn up with the knight, so he has to defend it first. Italian setups are suboptimal against the pirc, he really should be taking the full center instead

The Kings Indian is a defense to d4 and c4

very different with the c pawn involved

it's also important to state that the Pirc is NOT a system-opening. It's extremely risky to play, and there is TONS of theory in it, and a multitude of systems that white can employ. use at your own risk

Yup meant the italian. Didn't realize they couldn't simultaneously be played by definition.

Thanks all for the help. Ive looked into a lot more cool stuff now. I also found the Sicilian dragon to be similar and found that i can try playing it against someone who constantly goes for the itallian set up in regards to white regardless of what black plays.

I believe that is the Bowdler Attack. In that case, e6 is favourable over g6 so you may as well ditch the Dragon.

The Bowdler Attack is not anything to be scared of.
