I find daily and general blitz and rapid to be very different games.
Daily chess players can exceed the accuracy of blitz and rapid players but only given large amounts of time to think per move - I find Daily chess requires more of a thorough and investigative personality, whereas rapid, blitz, and bullet require more of a bloodthirsty and competitive nature.
I think most chess players who dedicate the time it takes to get very good at the game do so because they are fiercely competitive - whether they have the patience to also play good daily chess is incidental person by person.
Sadly correspondence chess has taken a hammering since the invention of computers and borders on irrelevancy in the eyes of the wider chess world.
And, personally, I've never had the patience for it. I did get up to 1700 for a time, and feel like I could definitely go higher if I wanted to put in the time, but I'm not sure what I would get out of the time invested.
When I first heard about "Daily" here on Chess.com I thought it would be very boring and I wouldn't like it but I found that having time to analyze a position and all the variables is something that I really enjoy. Sure, people have more time to "cheat" (am I'm sure a lot of my opponents do) but we face that in all time controls. Make no mistake, Daily chess is alive and well here! 😊
Most players like myself have high rapid and blitz ratings and low daily rating because to be frank, we don’t care about it as much. We don’t think because we don’t see the necessity of having a high daily rating. It’s disappointing but it’s the truth.
I get that but don't you even TRY to make the best move? I mean, after all, you are playing a real game. If you don't care then why play at all? If you accept a match and then don't actually try to win, isn't that a form of ratings manipulation? I'm 1200 Rapid and 1500 Daily and I am matched with a player who is 2000 rapid and 801 Daily. If I win somehow, (he quits, times out etc.) I get no rating boost. If I lose (probable) I get ratings dinged big-time. I get that people don't care about ratings but there is an opponent to consider also. Sportsmanship my friend.
