Most players like myself have high rapid and blitz ratings and low daily rating because to be frank, we don’t care about it as much. We don’t think because we don’t see the necessity of having a high daily rating. It’s disappointing but it’s the truth.

I get that but don't you even TRY to make the best move?  I mean, after all, you are playing a real game.  If you don't care then why play at all?  If you accept a match and then don't actually try to win, isn't that a form of ratings manipulation? I'm 1200 Rapid and 1500 Daily and I am matched with a player who is 2000 rapid and 801 Daily. If I win somehow, (he quits, times out etc.) I get no rating boost.  If I lose (probable) I get ratings dinged big-time.  I get that people don't care about ratings but there is an opponent to consider also. Sportsmanship my friend.

I find daily and general blitz and rapid to be very different games.

Daily chess players can exceed the accuracy of blitz and rapid players but only given large amounts of time to think per move - I find Daily chess requires more of a thorough and investigative personality, whereas rapid, blitz, and bullet require more of a bloodthirsty and competitive nature.

I think most chess players who dedicate the time it takes to get very good at the game do so because they are fiercely competitive - whether they have the patience to also play good daily chess is incidental person by person.

Sadly correspondence chess has taken a hammering since the invention of computers and borders on irrelevancy in the eyes of the wider chess world.

And, personally, I've never had the patience for it. I did get up to 1700 for a time, and feel like I could definitely go higher if I wanted to put in the time, but I'm not sure what I would get out of the time invested.

When I first heard about "Daily" here on Chess.com I thought it would be very boring and I wouldn't like it but I found that having time to analyze a position and all the variables is something that I really enjoy.  Sure, people have more time to "cheat" (am I'm sure a lot of my opponents do) but we face that in all time controls.  Make no mistake, Daily chess is alive and well here! 😊

No one is literally obliged to give 100% focus to every online game. That is an absurd idea. Rating manipulation is losing games on purpose. There's a big difference.

Skilled players can play bullet and blitz and not dedicate much thought to their moves and still do well, because the opponent is under the same time constraint as them.

However, a 2300 playing his moves in 3 seconds vs a 1500 who is taking 3 days to contemplate every move still has a very good chance to lose the game!

If your opponent is 800 daily, he is 800 daily for a reason wink.png

What Open Sicilian do you recommend to Sicilian starters? Dragon, Najdorf, Accelerated Dragon. Classical, Paulsen, Kan or whatever?

tbh I'm more of a tactical person so I play e4,e5 but from what I've heard, Najdorf is more complicated and Dragon is more solid than not

most of the time, its due to the lack of time I have. I sometimes start too many games or join a daily tournament and the level of caring just goes down.
