Solid Opening Repertoire Book(s)?

Hi,

I’m looking for opening repertoire books (rather than individual openings/defences) that build on “Discovering Chess Openings” by Emms

—> It’s for my daughter (age 11) and myself. I’ve been helping her through several books including Mullers’s Chess Endgames for Kids (referring to Fundamental Chess Endings by the same author). We also have “Simple Attacking Plans” by Fred Wilson and a Chess Tactics book. She’s finished Journey Through the Chess Kingdom and the Chesskid videos herself.

So... the positions she heads towards are classical opening principles - so Giuoco Piano as White, Alapin Sicilian, Nimzo Indian, Caro Kann.

Her Xmas list includes “A chess openings book” - so I’m wondering if there’s anything that’s appropriate for age that sticks to classical central development?

(reading age = 14 according to her school)

What about this?

“Kaufman’s New Repertoire for Black and White”?

RussBell

Kaufman's New Repertoire is written for very advanced players.  That is, it is not intended to instruct the beginner thru intermediate player.

I believe the Italian Game (Giuoco Piano) would be most appropriate for a beginner-novice, or any player for that matter.  It's an opening you can grow with and play for the rest of your chess career, including at the highest levels...

A very instructive introductory opening repertoire book for White playing 1.e4 featuring the Italian Game is My First Chess Opening Repertoire for White by Vincent Moret.  Also, his instruction for how to play the Grand Prix Attack as White against 1. e4 c5 (Sicilian Defense) is outstanding, the best I have seen.  Check out my review of the book (search 'Moret') here...

Winning With The Slow But Venomous Italian by Muller & Souleidis...

read the authors' preface and introduction (book excerpt) here.....they also explain (in the Introduction) why they prefer the Italian Game over the Ruy Lopez (Spanish Opening)...

Alternatively, for a solid, strictly classical opening repertoire for White and Black of the type you referred to, I would recommend...
