Stalemate means when your king is not in check and also don't have legal move.

Not exactly. At turn 1, White's king is not in check but has no legal moves – yet its not stalemate. For a stalemate, if you have other pieces they have to also lack any legal moves. And obviously it only works if it's your turn when you don't have legal moves. Did that help?
