The Best Part About Improving?

So in the past month I’ve improved from mid 800s to mid 1000s. The best part? Opponents start playing real chess instead of the same moronic “trick” openings like wayward queen. It’s pointless to study openings if all you get is the same thing game after game and hopefully I won’t regress back into that cesspool.

i too found playing people in the 800-900 range to be a serious drag because of all the cheese and garbage. it didn't even feel like real chess until i got out of that range and doing so was a royal pain in the ass because i kept losing. what sucks is now that i got to 1200 in rapid i'm trying to advance my rating in blitz as well so i can get into playing short games sometimes, but that means i'm back to playing in the 900s where everyone has some stupid trick line or weird goofy opening memorized that only works at the lower levels in lieu of actually taking the time to learn how to play.

I never encountered garbage openings until I started playing online and they came as a shock. After a while I started googling “how to punish _____ opening” and just memorizing a few lines. All of them violate chess principles and are unsound, so can be punished with just a little study. They are super annoying.

yeah that makes, its just that studying how to punish a garbage opening feels so much like time that could be better spent when i would much rather be learning real chess
