When we play chess in some cases we may need to take a piece but the opponent will take back. So we need to remember some pieces are more important than others. eg. you wouldn't use your queen just to eat a pawn and then your queen gets wasted as the opponent takes your queen with another pawn. A queen gone just because you wanted a silly pawn. So think about it like this: King=infinity(obviously); Queen=15 points; Rook=10; knight= 6; Bishop=8; pawn= 4.
Look out and don't waste your pieces.
