Tips For Beginners

Hey! Thank you for checking out this forum post. I'm rated 600 elo, but I consistently win against my opponents, and I could probably help a few of you below 400. I know this sounds click-baity, but when I started playing chess in October of last year, I was stuck at 100 for months. I somehow got 6 times that. Anyways, I'll stop ranting and actually give you tips.

Checks, captures, and attacks Before every move you make, it is a good idea to see if there are any useful checks, captures, or attacks. If not, is there any way you can better the position of your own pieces? Maybe safely put a few pieces in the opponent's territory (Without them just being kicked away, of course)?

Find openings you like

I know this might sadden some of you, but actually studying certain openings instead of playing what was in the last Gothamchess video helps a lot (or study what was in the last Gothamchess video!). I'm going to admit that I haven't studied any opening lines, but I play openings I think I can play well and that I'm comfortable with. If you don't feel like studying (which you unfortunately need to do in chess), then just play openings you've played for a bit and have kind of turned to.

Develop your pieces efficiently In the opening, the single most important things are controlling the center, and activating your pieces. To do this efficiently, you shouldn't:

*Move the same piece twice unless neccesary

*Block any pieces (mainly bishops) behind pawns

*Keep the king and queen safe and not activated in the opening

Middle games: I'm going to be honest, I don't know what to do in the middle game. But some useful things to keep in mind is the checks, captures, and attacks list, and ways to better your own pieces. Pieces are generally worse if:

Not controlling a decent amount of squares; in a cramped place

On the edge of the board

Not doing anything useful right then (kind of ties in with them not controlling a decent amount of squares)

Endgames: In endgames,  one of your main priorities is to promote your pawns. The king turns into an active piece in the endgame and is often crucial to winning. It's weird since the other parts of the game you should hide your king away. But when there's less pieces to threaten it, the king is a pretty solid piece.

Well you messed up tho, MY texts came up with 1-5% and werent written like an AI
