You're not advancing because all you're playing is speed chess. Even in your daily games you're moving fast. No amount of lessons free or paid for is going to help you improve until you slow down, study each position and calculate. Speed kills in chess and driving.

It seemed to me that to make progress and get pass certain thresholds in your learning curve, you need help and drilling. Whether you have to pay for it, depends on your brain and, most obviously, on the time you can or want to spend on it. And for most of us, time litterally means money and is taken at the expense of our family at some degree. I decided to get a membership to get some structure and continuity, but in fact a significant part of my pleasure is to review my games and sneak through the internet for tips. Some youtube tutorials are very well done and give interesting advice. Even though, I am rarely able to apply these in my games.

May be AI tools like chatgpt might be helpful. It has the stockfish solver inside from what I understood.

Isn't ChatGPT famous for making illegal moves?

Avatar of medyves

May be. I was thinking on cut/paste a game in the chat window to get comments.

#25 chat gpt is Ai which means it can’t innovate. Ai simply pulls up information that already exists. This is why chat sucks in chess.
However in opening principles there is tons of content and chat should be able to group the information although it may not provide game lines.

#1 paywalls and no reason do not fit in the same sentence. How else do you expect the employees at chess.com to make money. Selling our information?

i would not, personally

The ads are really not that bad in chess.com. Sure they’re there but most times there in places where you can just glaze over them.

Chess originated in India around the 6th century CE as the game chaturanga. It spread to Persia (modern-day Iran) and then to the Arab world, eventually reaching Europe by the 10th century. The rules and set design evolved over time, reaching their current form in the 19th century. Chess has been called the "royal game" due to its popularity among the nobility and has seen a surge in popularity during the 20th century, with professional and state-sponsored players competing for world championship titles. How to Play: Board: The chessboard is composed of 64 squares, alternating in color (light and dark). Pieces: Each player has 16 pieces with specific movement capabilities: King: Moves one square in any direction. Queen: Moves any number of squares in a straight line (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally). Rook: Moves any number of squares horizontally or vertically. Bishop: Moves any number of squares diagonally. Knight: Moves in an "L" shape (two squares in one direction and then one square perpendicularly). Pawn: Moves one square forward (or two squares on its first move) and captures diagonally forward. Objective: The goal is to checkmate the opponent's king. Checkmate: When the king is under attack and has no legal move to escape the attack. Notation: Chess games can be recorded using algebraic notation, which tracks piece movements and game progress. Benefits of Playing Chess: Cognitive Enhancement: Chess improves memory, planning, and problem-solving skills. Brain Activation: Both hemispheres of the brain are activated during play, enhancing neural communication and cognitive function. Concentration: Chess requires focus and attention, improving concentration abilities. Reduced Symptoms of Brain Conditions: Studies suggest that playing chess may help reduce symptoms of certain brain conditions. Social Interaction: Chess brings people together from diverse backgrounds, fostering social connectio
