Ah, makes sense. Honestly, i just checked for players in candidates and GA and NI where the only initials that could actually be used in a sentence. After sin, the rest was easy.

my first is a function related to cos
my second are the initials of a chess player in the candidates (last name initial followed by the first one)
my third can be said about a chess player, as it can be said about a country or an animal. It generally isn't positive.
my whole is a place in the world quite near the other one where a famous and enigmatic chess player was during the September 11th attacks.
