chess players like these games

I like Khet, too, I have difficulty finding anyone to play it with me. I purchased it on the spot when I saw it, because I am fascinated with laser lights and mirror reflections. I think playing it helps improve my chess, because it gives my mind an exercise in looking for various attacking procedures.
Risk

Go -- Stratego -- Hearts Bridge Spades and all card games -- Settlers of Catan -- Call of Duty 4 and other computer FPS games -- Madden NFL until they stopped supporting it for PC (I briefly considered domestic terrorism at that point) -- Steel Panthers and all war simulation strategy computer games that focus on realism rather than cartoonism -- all puzzles mazes brain teasers -- all old Avalon Hill/SPI/GDW games -- Car Wars! (and other Steve Jackson games -- Wizards, and that one with the gigantic robot -- what awesome games) -- games games games I just love games and have all my life.
As a kid played my gaming claim to fame: Played Dungeons and Dragons with Gary Gygax and Boot Hill with Dave Arnesen -- had true first editions of both games! but gave them away like a fool!
omg, what is Khet? A game I haven't heard of! ... *sound of Google firing up*

Khet
Yes! I like khet too.
As to what Crosspinner said, if you just leave the game on a table, people won't be able to help coming over and seeing the 'laser game'!

Maybe we can play online correspondence Khet crossspinner?
That would interesting, if possible. You come up with a way to do it and I would give it a try. Hey, such things just need someone to start them, just as Facebook began.

Good Idea. I'm adding "computer games" to the list.

I like Backgammon.
Computer games? I have a thing for old RPGs and adventure type games.
I spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to make them run in windows7 :(

I'll be buying Khet at the first available opportunity!
I'm certain you will not regret it.

Good idea! What monkey sees, monkey wants.
I am teaching my wife to play chess, but I never thought of teaching her Khet. Maybe not, because chess is enough for her now, and she enjoys it. But on the other hand, she might enjoy Khet, too. She may do better at that than chess.

My favorite computer game is Age of the Empires, the Conquerors. I purchased Age of the Empires III, but I didn't like it. I enjoy creating landscapes for new games, and I did not like the landscapes of III. I also, from time to time, play Pirates. There isn't much strategy in these games, but I've gotta give my brain a rest from strategy once in awhile.

I really enjoy RISK!

Maybe we can play online correspondence Khet crossspinner?
There is a website where you can play live khet online. There is practically no activity, but there is an AI thats always ready to play. The Website is
http://www.ascendingintegration.com/khethome.aspx
you have to login, but it might be worth looking into.

As far as computer games go, I don't have too many favorites. Basically, there are only two that I play, and both are free online games.
1. Dogfight 2 (and Dogfight 1) at rocksolidarcade.com
2. Bloons Tower Defence 4 at ninjakiwi.com
Dogfight is an extremly fun game set in WW2 where you control a fighter plane and need to shoot down the enemy planes to advance to the next level.
Bloons is the only TD game I play. Period. I have not yet found a better one. Punch Line: "... Black Hats and White Hats, Monkeys and Balloons... What!?? You didn't know that monkeies and balloons were mortal enemie?" or something like that.

Hahaha now I have to try this. I only learned about Khet's existance because it was posted on here as an alternative for Chess960 I believe :p

The Game has the uninteresting name of 'Squares' but is an excellent game. I have always wanted a game that was 1. no luck factor (dice, cards, etc.) 2. Open information and 3. semi-accuratley resembled a battle. (I didn't expect too much on this point; just enough to get the 'feel of battle'.
Squares does a wonderful job at all this and there are no dice! everthing is decided by the choices the players make on the game-board.
Since the rules and game board are 100% free on the website, it can't hurt to check it out. Right? and anyway, think what you might find: A game that combines the open information and pure strategy of chess with a civil war simulation. Check it out.
Which non-chess games do you enjoy? This might include:
Miniature Gaming
non-miniature Historical Simulations
Card Games
Computer Games
Other Strategy Games
'just for fun' Games
Other Games you enjoy.
