Irony. "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means..."
Trust me, I know my Linda Hutcheon better'n you. Don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

Hehe awesome. Literary theory is fun, even though I'm not the biggest fan of postmodernism.
I'm still curious though, what's ironic about the the combination of Deep Blue and your last name?
Oh, and by the way... apparently there is a Deep Green now...

Ahh that was my assumption, then I looked at your rating.
/You'll always be `deep' to a patzer like me! Haha.

I like checkers.
chess is pretty cool too.
If there was a "drinking chess" game, then it would take the number one spot for me.

LOL! Don't believe every rating you read... Apparently, there's something about my playing style that causes my opponents to time out, whether or not they're losing. It's a gift.
Tr4mpldUndrfooT = Trampled Underfoot
It's a Led Zeppelin song, it's a great song but that's not why I picked the name. I picked the name because it's completely out there, I still have yet to understand why the song is named Trampled Underfoot, I'd have to say some kind of drugs were involved, the songs lyrics do not tell you anything about how it's name came about.
If you think about it (well if you know me and think about it), I'd have to say that the name kind of fits my character, most of the time I don't even know why I do things, I'm sort of out there just like the song title.
Good question. When I first started on chess.com I thought it would be more dramatic to have an enigmatic name with an enigmatic image. I am interested in ancient civilisations and chess stikes me as a god-like activity, hence sun_god, accompanied by an image of some ancient stone figures.
Since then I've realised that, most of all, I like to see images of the people i'm playing, so i changed mine, but the name remains.
Well, it's just as simple as it sounds, really...
Excel, as in Micro$oft Excel
Guru, as in I know my way around Micro$oft Excel pretty well
The name was acquired way back in the day when the firm I worked for used a non-windows (DOS) version of Lotus 123 to handle humongous estimating spreadsheets. Very tedious. One day they bought this new program called Excel and my boss told me to learn everything I could about it. So I did. Completely self-taught. Soon I was teaching the other engineers at the firm how to use the software and they referred to me as the excel guru.
I don't use Excel as much as I used to, but I try to maintain some working proficiency with it. Sometimes I'll create an elaborate application just for kicks (no social life). I'm working on an automated Glicko chess rating spreadsheet right now... just for kicks (see previous reference to social life). The nickname stuck and I prefer to use it on websites if it's not already taken.
As for the avatar, well, that's a different story for a different thread.
I just found my new best friend.
LOL... Just messin' with ya'.
(Phenominal blog, BTW.)
i lived in Honduras and my name's Ham = hondoham
i should have used my nickname "Catrachingo"
Catracho = slang term for hondurans (not a negative term)
Gringo = slang term for U.S. Americans (is a negative term)
My nickname is a random string and any resemblance between it and characters fictional or otherwise is purely coincidental.
Isn't that ironic?
