There are 64 squares of size 1x1. But there are also 49 squares of size 2x2 (4 smaller squares within them). And 36 of size 3x3, etc... finally there is 1 square of size 8x8, namely the whole board.

I dont like trick questions , like : how far can you go into the forest ? How long does it take to dig half a hole ?  Wink

I've never liked the second 'trick' question- it takes half the amount of time it would take to dig the full hole. If we consider the hole as a project, the time required to dig half of said hole, assuming we ignore factors such as tiredness or composition of the ground, is half the time of the full project.

Nytik, you can't dig half of a hole Wink

Sure he can. He can dig half the hole, and I can dig the other half. Oh, and my chessboard has 209 squares.

Sounds like a Drueke. (One in each corner of the border, plus the whole board including the border).

Well ... no ... now wait a minute. My Drueke has 418. There are squares made by the routed channel and the edge when you visually remove the border on two sides -- that adds four more for a total of 213.

Then there are another 205 on the back.

At least two, depending on how many spectators are in the room.
