Idk if this is illegal. White to move

It's obviously illegal. Black has eight pawns and a promoted bishop.

that position is just a mess

if this wasnt the case  it would probably take forever to see the capture sequences

[An illegal position]

The bishop didn't just move, so the last move must have been Pc7-c5+. But with the pawn on c7, every square on the 6th rank is attacked by a pawn, so the white king could never have moved past the 5th rank.

Ilampozhil25

oh yeah the check

Ilampozhil25

i didnt notice

Ilampozhil25

oops

Ilampozhil25

Ilampozhil25

Yes, the pentangulation saves a couple of moves over the heptangulation at #4920.

Ilampozhil25

oh

but a triangulation is impossible

n9531l1

But what happened after the king reached f2 was a triangulation.

Ilampozhil25

true

Ilampozhil25

its a setup to a triangulation

We just saw this kind of illegality. Black has eight pawns and a promoted bishop.

Ilampozhil25

remove one of the bishops and put it in the proof game thread

We can see what happens once you've done that.
