There is no opening setup that will save you against average players, if you start a queen down.

Long story short I've gotten involved in a bet. "I'll still beat you playing black and starting without a queen." After going too aggressive and trying for a quick mate I lost to a quick counter. Demanding a rematch I played a much more defensive game, and was holding my own until I made a mistake and they capitalized. Does anyone have ideas for how they would try and set up a defensive opening to make the most out of a tough situation.
